FRIENDS OF THE SHASTA DISTRICT FAIR
The Shasta District Fair “Friends of the Fair” was formed in October 2008 by a small group of people who have a passion for the fair. The purpose of the private nonprofit corporation called Friends of the Shasta District Fair is to support the mission of the fair to: (1) make the fair a more community, cultural, and educational asset; (2) provide a vehicle for the Shasta District Fair to become more entrepreneurial in nature by increasing revenues from non-traditional sources; (3) provide a volunteer base for the Shasta District Fair, with an emphasis on the annual Fair. To that end, the Friends of Shasta District Fair holds fundraisers, volunteers for the annual fair and interim events and works on capital improvements and programming for the Shasta District Fair.
As of June 30, 2011 all fair funding has been cut from the State of California’s budget. It is important to note fairs and fairgrounds are not supported by tax dollars, but are funded by the fairs themselves with revenue from admissions, parking, concessions, carnival rides, sponsorship, and the rental of fairground buildings and facilities throughout the year. The Friends of the Fair play a vital role in supporting the annual Fair, but also help out in many capacities throughout the year at the Fairground facilities, carrying on charitable and educational activities.
Friends of the Shasta District Fair & Event Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit arm of the Shasta District Fair. They meet the third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 pm at the main office.
